THE A325 Wrecclesham Road has reopened after a lorry smashed into the Wrecclesham railway bridge and overturned shortly before 10am on Thursday (March 17).

The road was closed between the Coxbridge roundabout and the Grovebell industrial estate for much of Thursday after the crash – the latest in a long-line of HGV bridge strikes in the village near Farnham.

Staff at the nearby Co-op supermarket said it sounded like a “bomb going off” as the HGV struck the bridge, but fortunately no injuries have been reported.

Network Rail workers were called out to assess the safety of the bridge, though it is believed the lorry hit the bridge’s protective boom.

Train services were unaffected, but the road closure caused significant rat-running on local roads, as well as disruption to bus services.
