A US CITIZEN has been remanded in custody and sent for trial, accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another man in Farnham earlier this month.

Bangali Sillai, 26, of no fixed address, appeared at Staines Magistrates’ Court on July 11, alleged to have “unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm...with intent” during an incident on Monday, July 8.

He was sent for trial under section 51(1) & (2)(a) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 at Guildford Crown Court on August 8, and has been remanded in custody – with magistrates deeming him “likely to abscond”.

Explaining the decision not to grant bail, magistrates pointed to the “nature and seriousness” of the alleged offence and Sillai’s “lack of community ties”, adding he was arrested “attempting to leave the jurisdiction”.
