A WRECCLESHAM man has been charged with attempted murder after a 50 year old man was allegedly assaulted in his own home last Friday (June 11).

Jamie Evans, 27, of Wrecclesham Road, was arrested close to the scene of the assault in Kingfisher Road shortly after police were called, and appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Monday (June 14).

A 50-year-old man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition following the incident.

Neighbours alerted police after a man had reportedly entered the victim's home and assaulted him late on Friday evening, and shortly after officers arrived, a male was arrested nearby.

The A325 Wrecclesham Road was closed temporarily and eye-witnesses watched on as the suspect was loaded into a police van and taken away to custody.

Police initially reported the suspect was a "27-year-old man from Addlestone" in east Surrey, adding the victim and the suspect "were not known to each other".

However, on Monday an updated statement named the suspect as Mr Evans, of Wrecclesham Road, close to the scene of the assault.
