A third man injured in a fatal crash on the A31 Farnham Bypass in the early hours of Wednesday remains in a critical condition in hospital, the police have confirmed.

Surrey Police continues to appeal for witnesses after two men in their 20s were killed in the two-vehicle collision between the Coxbridge roundabout and the Weydon Lane junction at around 1am on July 6.

The driver of a Mercedes, a 21-year-old man, and the passenger, a 22-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a VW Polo, a 32-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he remained as of Friday afternoon.

The two men killed in the crash are yet to be formally identified by the police. But their next of kin have been made aware and the two men’s families are currently being supported by specialist police officers.

Both carriageways of the A31 have reopened following a police investigation and highways repairs by the county council. It comes after an emergency diversion took traffic through the town centre for much of Wednesday.

The westbound carriageway of the A31 was re-opened at around 2pm on Wednesday. The eastbound carriageway was re-opened at around 3am on Thursday.

County councillor for Farnham North, Catherine Powell, reported the eastbound carriageway took longer to reopen as it needed resurfacing because of a oil spillage caused by the incident.

She added the incident “involved a vehicle crossing on to the oncoming traffic” and said her “thoughts are with the family and friends of those that sadly lost their lives”.

The police believe a vehicle may have unknowingly witnessed the incident, and officers are still appealing to anyone who saw something, has dashcam or any information, to get in touch quoting P22140500.
