THREE people have been arrested this morning (Tuesday, May 7), after a cashpoint was ripped from the Co-op in Headley Road, Liphook overnight.

In eerily familiar scenes to last year’s spate of ram-raids across the area, a JCB was used to remove the ATM before being abandoned in the middle of the road.

Police were called at 2.20am and Hampshire Constabulary later confirmed three offenders were arrested "in the Surrey area following a pursuit by police vehicles".

The three arrested are a 46 year old man and a 29 year old man, both from Guildford and a 33 year old man of no fixed abode.

They currently remain in custody.

The closure of Headley Road prompted gridlock through Liphook during the Tuesday morning rush-hour. The road remained cordoned off at 11am on Tuesday as officers carry out investigations, but is expected to fully re-open later today.

The Co-op is closed, as is the post office inside the shop. Access to Liphook Square via Tower Road and London Road or The Avenue and Longmoor Road

A police spokesman said: "If you witnessed anything suspicious or if you have information about this crime, please get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference 44190156142.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
