THE A331 at Tongham is expected to remain closed until at least lunchtime today (Tuesday) after a female pedestrian was hit by "multiple vehicles" on the A331 in Tongham in the early hours.

Emergency services were called to the A331 Blackwater Valley relief road near the Ash bridge shortly after midnight after reports that the body of a woman had been found in the carriageway.

A police spokesman said: "It is believed she was struck by at least five vehicles and enquiries remain ongoing to identify these vehicles.

"The road is currently closed in both directions while we deal with the incident."

In a later update, shortly after 10am, the spokesman added: "The road is still closed and likely to remain so for the next few hours.

"Diversions are in place and we would respectfully ask motorists to avoid the area for the time being."

However, police confirmed the road was still closed at 2.15pm.
