Flood prevention work and resurfacing will shut the A32 Gosport Road in Farringdon again next week.

Last summer businesses in the village were hit by a 15-week closure as the bulk of the work to stop a repeat of its 2014 flooding was carried out.

This time the closure – from Woodside Lane to Kitcombe Lane – will last 18 days from May 30 until June 17.

From May 30 until June 4 there will be installation of drainage pipes at two locations, around 110 yards north and south of the entrance to Farringdon Industrial Centre.

The depth of excavation and the time required for the concrete to set has dictated the length of the road closures.

It will be closed south of Farringdon Industrial Centre from 7.30am on May 30 until 7.30am on June 1, and north of Farringdon Industrial Centre from 7.30am on June 1 until 7.30am on June 4.

Carriageway resurfacing as part of Hampshire County Council’s Operation Resilience scheme will start on June 5 and continue until June 17, with the road closed from 7.30am until 6pm every day.

There will be no resurfacing on June 9 but the road will remain closed for work to adjust covers and drains along the road to be completed.

Additional drainage improvement work will begin on June 5 on land next to the carriageway north and south of Farringdon Industrial Centre. This work will be carried out during the day and will last for 12 weeks. Temporary traffic lights will be required on the A32 for up to two weeks.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. When the works are near properties or businesses, vehicular access will not be possible and some delays should be expected.

There may be times when works have to be postponed at short notice, for example because of an adverse weather forecast.

Any significant changes to the scheduled work dates will be made clear on the yellow sign boards located on site.

Operation Resilience is Hampshire County Council’s long-term strategy to make Hampshire’s roads more resilient to the effects of extreme weather and heavy traffic.
