WALKERS have been told to stay vigilant following several adder sightings on Kingsley Common.
Adders are Britain’s only native venomous snake and, while potentially dangerous, they are not aggressive.
The Forestry Commission explained they have “the most highly developed venom-injecting mechanism of all snakes” but will “only use their venom as a last means of defence”. This is usually if caught or trodden on. “Most people who are bitten were handling the snake.”
