A painting of some ageing boats at Bideford harbour in Devon was voted best in show by visitors to the Alton Art Society’s annual exhibition at the Alton Assembly Rooms last month.
First place went to Rusty Wrecks – Bideford, painted by Leonard Murrell. Second was New Forest Abstract, by Jean Bassington. Caught Napping, by Jenny Kennish, came third.
The winner of the public vote receives the Jack Riviere Trophy, which was made by local sculptor Jack Riviere many years ago.
It was presented to Mr Murrell by exhibition secretary Kaye Garrett at the society’s meeting on Saturday.
The society’s next winter demonstration at the Alton Assembly Rooms, to be given by Jonathon Newey on December 17 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, will be on watercolour painting. Visitors are welcome. Entry costs £3.
