BORDON’S Future Skills Centre will host an education and career event for young people tomorrow.
Parents and young people, aged 13 to 19, will be able to learn about employment and career opportunities locally and regionally. Attendees will experience an evening of learning and insight, including a networking section with local business representatives, and inspirational talks from Ashleigh Porter-Exley, winner of the BBC’s Young Apprentice 2012 and one of The Queen’s Young Leaders, and a keynote address from Alan Bullock of Alan Bullock Careers.
Ms Porter-Exley will talk about the opportunities available to young people and how they can reach their potential, while Mr Bullock’s talk is aimed at helping young people to make sense of the quickly evolving world of work and explore career and skill paths previously unknown to them.
The networking aspect of the event will give young people the chance to speak directly with regional business representatives, offering them the knowledge they need to take the next step from school to further education, training or work. Attendees will see local businesses presenting alongside university representatives and education providers, allowing them to speak openly with company representatives about skill requirements and career opportunities.
This event is held in conjunction with the National Careers Service, Future Skills Centre and Mill Chase Academy school.
Naomi Metcalfe, community development officer at the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, said: “This event is a fantastic chance for young people to gain guidance on their options when beginning on a career path. Too often young people are trapped by a lack of knowledge in this regard and this event aims to free their mind to the possibilities that they have before them.”
