A HEADLEY teenager has become the youngest level-two archery coach in the UK.

Maia Daborn, who lives in Headley and goes to Bohunt Sixth-Form College, completed her practical assessment and exam on Saturday, February 10, following a training course that began in October.

Maia, 17, will continue to use her coaching skills to run beginners courses at, and coach members of, the Whitehill Archers group, of which she has been a member since she was 10.

As well as all this, Maia holds 12 national and 45 county records and, since 2011, has represented Hampshire in its county archery team.

Club chairman and Maia’s father, Mike Daborn, said Archery GB had confirmed that Maia was the youngest level-two coach in the country. During her final assessment, the examiner suggested that Maia consider becoming a county coach.

Maia is pictured with 11-year-old Olivia Buxton - one of the club’s young archers and with whom Maia demonstrated her coaching skills during her final assessment.
