WHITEHILL town councillors said this week they were pleased that communication was improving, following issues with public access to Army land.

The council discussed the concerns on Monday, following a recent meeting with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation regarding cycling on Army land, including on Longmoor Ranges.

Cycling on the training estate is an issue that caused a stir locally back in March when, seemingly out of the blue, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) began telling cyclists, many of whom had ridden on the paths for years, that they were not allowed to do so.

It transpired that, according to the existing byelaws, all cycling on the land had been forbidden for decades and the MoD had previously been turning a blind eye to it.
