THE Allen Gallery is this month hosting an exhibition of work by members of the Alton Art Society (AAS) Paint Group.

Entitled Group Retrospective, the exhibition opened on Saturday, April 2, and will continue until Friday, April 29.

The pieces range from naturalistic to abstract, detailed to impressionistic, with a wide range of subject matter, from Jimi Hendrix to seascapes, landscapes to still life and from Chinese ink and brush painting to dancing trees.

Said exhibition organiser, Kate Davis: “The exhibition is incredably vibrant and really reflects the different approaches of the 16 members exhibiting. The group has put on a really exciting show – I’m really proud of them”

The AAS Paint Group meets every Thursday afternoon at the Alton Maltings Centre, and this is their first major exhibition at the Allen Gallery. Alongside the paintings adorning the walls, there are folios and cards for sale. Members will also be carrying out demonstrations on various days throughout the month

Alton Art Society welcomes new members of any standard, and any AAS member is welcome to attend the Thursday Paint Group, which was set up to give members room to work and the opportunity to work alongside other artists, giving each other encouragement.

Group Retrospective is open from 10.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday and entry is free.
