A BORDON man had some special visitors to his birthday party at the weekend. Jack Bird, who lives at Shaftesbury Court, in Forest Road, turned 94 on Saturday, May 10, and welcomed The Royal Harmonics barbershop singers to his home, where they serenaded him with some celebratory songs. Mr Bird, who has himself sung in barbershop quartets for "44 good years", said the visit was brilliant. "It made my day, it really did," he added. Having won British gold in 1985, represented Britain at international contests and formed South Africa's Gilt Edge Quartet, barbershop singing seemed a fitting way to mark Mr Bird's birthday. The Royal Harmonics, based in Windsor, won silver at the British Association of Barbershop Singers national chorus competition in 2008 and 2012, and the bronze medal in 2013. They have sung at many high-profile events and serenaded the Queen as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002.
