THERE were surprises in the woods - assuming you went down on August 3 when the teddy bears held their picnic.

The event, held in the Hogmoor Inclosure in partnership with children’s charity Barnardo’s, was one of the Deadwater Valley Trust’s summer-holiday fixtures.

This year, the picnic tied in with World Breastfeeding Week - an initiative to raise awareness about breastfeeding’s nutritional benefits and, according to UNICEF, “to galvanise action to increase breastfeeding rates worldwide”.

The trust has plenty on its summer calendar to keep all ages entertained.

On Wednesday, August 22, there will be the chance to create bug hotels and bird feeders at the Bordon Inclosure.

And on Wednesday, August 29, a birds of prey event at the Hogmoor Inclosure will include activities based around local native-bird species.
