A Bordon teenager has been named as Barratt Homes’ apprentice of the year after going the extra mile to help others. Jack Ford, who works at the company’s New Quarter development in Bordon, secured the title after excelling in his own work while helping to mentor other young people.

He was presented with the award by David Thomas, Group CEO of Barratt Developments. Jack, 17, said: “It feels amazing to win the award, especially with the competition being so high. I think apprenticeships are a really good route into a career so I feel like it’s my personal mission to spread the word about them! The more young people that know about apprenticeships as an alternative route into their dream job, the better.” It’s the second time Jack has picked up an accolade

since joining Barratt Homes. Earlier this year he was named as the housebuilder’s apprentice of the quarter. Barratt Homes community liaison manager, Anthony Dimmick, said: “Jack’s a shining example of a Barratt apprentice and we are all very proud of him. His enthusiasm and willingness to help others has made him a stand out student and I see a bright future ahead for him.”

Jack started his journey at nearby Mill Chase School and excelled during construction workshops held with the school as part of Barratt Homes’

educational program. The company saw his potential and encouraged him to apply for the apprenticeship.

Since then Jack has gone from strength to strength, not only excelling in his own work but also working to mentor others doing work experience.

Steve Gilder, manager of the Future Skills Centre where Jack studies, said: “Jack’s work as a mentor to current students, while they complete work experience has been a tremendous help. It’s given them the confidence to be part of Barratt’s team when they are on site and I think he sees a lot of himself in the students he talks to. “We’re all very proud of Jack and know he thoroughly deserves this award.” To find out more about apprenticeships with Barratt Homes visit http://www.barrattdevelopments.co.uk/careers.
