A handy group of men have served up a treat to pupils at an East Hampshire school.
Pupils at Selborne Primary School are cooking up a storm as Bordon Men’s Shed has revamped their ‘mud’ kitchen.
The group were happy to sink their teeth into the project as their school’s previous kitchen had fallen into disrepair and was becoming dangerous.
“We took on the project and collected wood from various sources, including projects in the neighbourhood that gave up their spare materials,” said Bordon Men’s Shed leader, Clive Handy.
“We also found a stainless steel sink that was going spare and utilised that – the result was very pleasing.”
He added: “The staff were thrilled and couldn’t wait for the children to see it and play with it.
“I’m sure the children of Selborne will have many happy hours playing with it.”
The kitchen, which was delivered to the village school on September 26, also has a funnel and tube attachment so water can be turned on and off. It’s also not the first time the BMS team has helped out at Selborne Primary School, as the sandpit covers and the hanging fixture were also constructed by their members.
The group based behind the Phoenix Theatre & Arts Centre have also received a helping hand as Taylor Wimpey South Thames has donated £500 as part of its commitment to the Bordon community.
The money will be spent on tools and equipment with a bench drill and sander already being purchased.
Mr Handy said: “With our new shed coming soon, this donation has come at a great time.”
Louise Adams, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey South Thames, said: “We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to support the group and provide a donation for its new tools.”
