Seven-year-old Alba Wilson swam a length of a swimming pool for the first time at the beginning of October – now she has completed 200!

Alba challenged herself to swim 5km – 200 lengths of the 25m Whitehill & Bordon pool – by Children in Need day on November 18.

She did lane swimming with adults in the evenings and at weekends, and achieved her goal at midday on October 26 supported by banner-waving relatives and friends. Alba went to The Shed for an ice cream to celebrate. She raised £1,129 for Children in Need.

This year’s BBC Children in Need appeal is focusing on tackling the impact of the cost of living crisis on children, teenagers and the charities and community organisations which support them.

BBC Children in Need chief executive Simon Antrobus said: “No child should be held back by hardship. Having a safe, warm and secure home, enough food and opportunities to have fun and learn are all fundamental to a happy childhood and healthy mental wellbeing, and we need to be there for the children and young people across the UK that so urgently need our support, and that’s why we are calling on the UK public to help us.”

There are lots of fundraising ideas at www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk ahead of the charity’s Appeal Show on November 18 on BBC1 and iPlayer.
