BORDON’S Future Skills Centre opened its doors last week, inviting potential students on site to learn more about the opportunities available.

The event, held on Thursday, was focused on construction and property and featured talks from industry figures and a multitude of exhibitors, including higher education providers, councils, and relevant industry bodies.

Organisers said keynote speakers Luke Haskell, marketing manager at TJ Transport, and Ravail Marwaha, project manager at Taylor Wimpey, were “informative” and “well-received”.

Throughout the evening, many people booked onto apprenticeship programmes and courses provided by a range of businesses - a key aim of the event.

The careers evening was a joint venture between the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company, National Career Service, and the Future Skills Centre.

Naomi Metcalfe, community development officer at the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company said: “This was the second of the Future Horizon career evenings held at the Future Skills Centre. This time the focus was placed on the opportunities available in the construction and property sector.

“We had lots of positive feedback from visitors who found the evening very helpful. Based on the growing interest, we are planning to continue working on other events, the next likely to be in the autumn.

“I must also say thank you to all the staff from the organisations that worked tirelessly to make the evening a success, as well as those who exhibited.”

Exhibitors included developers ZeroC, Radian, Solent University, Portsmouth City Council, Skanska (which is working on the town’s relief road), Taylor Wimpey (which is part responsible for new homes in Bordon), and Basingstoke College of Technology, which runs the centre.
