WHITEHILL Town Council is supporting a campaign for a 30mph speed limit along the full length of Hogmoor Road.

This comes after a group of residents got together to highlight the “dangers” of roadside parking, which have been exacerbated by the Hogmoor Inclosure play area opening for public use.

Resident Lin Bateson said: “Parking around the northern most access to Hogmoor is becoming a hazard.”

The Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company said it was aware of these concerns and hoped that the car park at the Hogmoor Inclosure would alleviate pressure when it is fully opened in spring. At present, it is only available at weekends.

“There is also a situation around the speed limit in Hogmoor Road and we have approached Hampshire County Council about reducing the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph,” the Regeneration Company’s James Child said. “We are hopeful that this will be changed.”

At a full Whitehill Town Council meeting, on September 11, councillors felt that reducing the speed limit was a good idea.

Town council leader Mark Davison said roadside parking was an issue “throughout the town”.

“What the Regeneration Company is proposing is pretty sensible - let’s cut the speed limit,” he added.

But besides that, there is “not a great deal we can do” regarding on street parking, he said. “Hampshire County Council has already said it likes cars on the side of the road because this slows down people,” he explained.

Town, district and county councillor Adam Carew was “very pleased” that the Regeneration Company was adding its voice to the 30mph speed-limit effort, which he has been pushing for “continually”.

Although much of the road has a 30mph limit already, there is still a section that has a 40mph limit.

Councillors agreed that the whole stretch should have a 30mph limit.
