A fundraising drive is in full swing in a village near Farnham as a much-used pavilion needs £30,000 of repairs.

Crondall Cricket Club and their Bowls Club counterparts could find themselves on a sticky wicket if their pavilion next to the village hall doesn’t get some TLC soon.

The building is starting to show signs of age after more than half a century of use as some of its timber framework is rotten and a wall has started to sag.

“It’s pretty unique because in the early 80s the cricket and bowls club wanted a pavilion,” said Crondall Bowls Club secretary, Owen Durrett.

“It’s a second-hand wooden hut which we bought from Fleet Town and rebuilt here.

“But it was second-hand so the weather, time and wind have ravaged it even more since then. It’s been well maintained but there’s only much you can do.”

A “Help Save Crondall Cricket & Bowls Club” GoFundMe page has been launched with just under £1,000 donated to the campaign at the time of writing.

“We need to raise around £30,000 to take care of all the work that needs doing and we’re trying to get the story out,” said page founder, Bina Panchal.

“We need to replace the deteriorating external wooden cladding and supporting timber, which are both showing their age.”

The pavilion is a key part of the community as it’s used by around 100 club members, along with more from outside teams like the Farnham CC Thirds.

The cricket and bowls clubs are committed to raising funds while the work is not dependent on the whole sum being raised as it can be carried out in stages with grant applications being made in the interim.
