CELEBRATED author Jane Austen died in Winchester in 1817, in rented rooms on College Street. She was buried in the north aisle of the cathedral.

Now, Winchester Cathedral is offering tours to give an intimate and often amusing insight into Jane’s life and connections with the cathedral. The tour will include a walk through the building’s historic Inner Close, to the house in College Street where Jane and Cassandra stayed during their time in Winchester.

Tours will take place on the first Saturday of the month until the end of November.

Tickets, priced £12.50, are available from the cathedral box office by calling 01962 857275 or online at winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
