HOME-START Winchester’s fundraisers are getting ready to test their little grey cells at the charity’s annual Champagne quiz night on Friday, October 5, at Itchen Abbas Village Hall.

Their star performer is quiz master Mike Davies who sets the quiz each year, aided on the night by his lovely assistant, wife of 47 years Pauline, who keeps the scores.

“I try not to make the questions too hard as people get demoralised if they can’t answer a good few,” said Mike who also creates for other local organisations.

However, Mike has another reason for putting himself through this hard work each year - he is the hard-working treasurer for the Home-Start which also covers the Alresford area.

“It’s events like this that help keep the charity going,” he said. “We have to raise around £60,000 every year to support our wonderful volunteers who in turn support struggling families in and around Winchester, so I’m very happy to do my bit to help fill the coffers. And we are so grateful for companies like Rothmans chartered accountants who are sponsoring this year’s event.”

Apart from doling out Champagne to the winning team, there will be a raffle.
