FIREFIGHTERS raised hundreds of pounds for charity as Bordon’s station opened its doors to the community.

The car wash event, on October 20, raised £915 for the Fire Fighters Charity and for local girl Jasmine Silvester’s volunteer trip to Ghana.

The day was part of Bordon firefighters’ effort to further engage with local people and “show the community who we are and the job we do”.

Firefighter Daniel Todd said some residents “do not actually know where the station is”, let alone understand the work done inside.

“We are always looking for on call firefighters to help provide daytime cover at Bordon fire station,” he added.

Anyone invested can head down to Conde Way for a “station drill night” held every Thursday from 6.45pm, where they can receive information on how to apply.

Jasmine Silvester is raising funds to travel to Africa and build a classroom in rural Ghana.
