Anthony’s programme had an Advent and Christmas flavour, including J S Bach’s Chorale prelude Wachet Auf, Ruft Uns Die Stimme (Awake, The Voice Is Calling Us) and Denis Bédard’s variations on In Dulci Jubilo.
The rest of Anthony’s programme was a mix of English, French and German compositions giving the audience a cross-section of popular organ music.
These included J S Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, regarded by many as one of his finest organ compositions. His finale was César Franck’s Choral No 3 in A minor, a wonderful conclusion to a well balanced and superbly delivered concert.
Concerts resume on January 4 when Peter Gould, formerly of Derby Cathedral, continues the Christmas theme with music by Bach, Daquin, Dubois, Gigout, Vierne and William Lloyd Webber.
