ANYONE inspired by the 2016 Rio Olympics may wish to go to Anstey Park on Sunday, August 21, for a festival of fun and an opportunity to try out a range sports available in the Alton area.
Between noon and 3pm, a variety of free sports and activities such as circus workshops, will be on offer for all ages and abilities to enjoy, courtesy of local sports clubs and groups.
A colourful, Rio Carnival-themed fancy dress parade competition will enliven the event at 12.30pm. Olympic Sports costumes can also be worn, and there will be four judging categories: pre-school, eight years and under,
nine-16, with a special section for local groups and businesses.
A fee of £1 per individual / £10 per group will be levied and any money raised will go to the mayor’s charity, Home-Start WeyWater, which supports families with young children.
At 1.30pm Kate Sadler and regulars from her Alton Zumba class will be performing in the main arena, before inviting visitors to join them for an adults’ and a children’s Zumba Dance Party.
A children’s five-a-side football tournament, orgnaised by Matt Northcott of CM-Sports, will take place, with the final at 2.30pm. Email [email protected] to enter a team. The fee is £1 per player, which will also be donated to Home-Start WeyWater.
The event is being organised by Alton Town Council in partnership with the Community Festival committee which includes: Alton Buckle, Alton College, Alton Community Association and East Hampshire District Council.
Specsavers and Data Print have provided funding for this community event.
Refreshments can be purchased from Alton Rugby Club’s bar or a mobile catering vendor and Tony Fresko’s will have an ice cream van on the site.
