IT was a day designed to bring together the community and the Kingsley Centre laid on a wealth of activities and attractions to make its Kingsley Fest Fun Day one to remember.

Certainly, it is one the visitors, who crowded into the centre, will remember as they made their way around the variety of attractions, which included a popular vintage tea room.

The hall was filled with a variety of stalls selling homemade honey and jams and other food, as well as craftwork.

While Oakhanger Angling Club set up the barbecue in the centre grounds, the Ukuladies - four, local talented players - provided a foot-tapping selection of their kind of music at the event on September 3.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Max Fulham, using his uncomplaining grandad as his dummy, performed his ventriloquist act among the visitors. Magic was provided by Rob Gaffney, a skilled magician who, in the afternoon, taught the children how to make balloon shapes.

The jewellery workshop, run by Sarah Palmer, was busy all day as people were invited to design and make their own jewellery.

Stephanie Dent offered relaxing reflexology while centre administrator Lynne Jeffery showed visitors the art of willow weaving.

Then, later in the afternoon, local singer Joe Waller, who appeared on TV’s The X-Factor, made a surprise appearance much to the delight of a squad of his teenage girl fans.

The day was a huge success, Lynne Jeffery told the Bordon Herald. “It really brought together the community,” she added. “But we also held the event to promote our centre shop, the only one in the village, and we have new suppliers. Pensworth Dairy now supplies our milk and butcher Geoff Betteridge our meat.”
