IN a step toward "breaking the mould" and becoming the most "innovative" authority in the country, East Hampshire District Council has given the green light to supply utilities to residents.

The district council could soon be spearheading a "pioneering venture" and could bec-ome the first council in the country to supply energy and other utilities to new homes.

At last Thursday's meeting, the council's cabinet gave its full support and welcomed plans to form an organisation, known as a Multi Utility Service Com-pany – or MUSCo.

The MUSCo would oversee the potential supply of gas, heat, electricity, water and data, including broadband, to residents.
