BORDON town, district and county councillor and local historian Adam Carew has headed south with his series of Historic Hauntings books.

The latest edition, Ghosts of Southampton, is his “most detailed” yet and follows on from Ghosts of East Hampshire and Ghosts of Winchester, which were both launched earlier this year.

In the books he covers local folklore, spooky tales and notoriously haunted

locations.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed researching my latest book Ghosts of Southampton,” he said.

“As with all in my Historic Hauntings series, we go beyond most ghost books in putting each ghostly tale into its proper historic context.

“From its ancient vaults, to the ghostly Roman legion at Bitterne, to Henry V’s executions at the Bargate, Southampton has it all.

“From phantom monks and disembodied moans at God’s House Tower to

haunted medieval innsand taverns, such as the ancient Red Lion Inn which has been subject to numerous paranormal investigations.

“From the ancient curse at Netley Abbey and Jane Austen’s Georgian spa

town to Southampton’s hey day as the gateway to America and the tragedy

of the Titanic.

“This book goes beyond the city to include the immediate surrounding area,

including tales of the supernatural from the murdered cook at Testwood

House and the phantom miller at Eling Tidemill, to the ghostly cavalier at the
