Hampshire County Council is set to approve expansion plans costing £13.5 million for Bordon infant and junior schools and Oakmoor School.

Under the proposal by the council’s lead member for children’s services, Cllr Roz Chadd, the infant and junior schools will gain an extra 30 places, one class, for each year group at a cost currently estimated at £4.3m.

Meanwhile Oakmoor School will grow by two classes, 60 pupils, for each year group at a cost of about £9.25m.

Whitehill county councillor Andy Tree (pictured above with Cllr Chadd and Oakmoor head Paul Hemmings) said: “I am told the intention is not to have more pupils in a class, but separate classes in new classrooms.

“We must have adequate school facilities and I would be very surprised if this didn’t happen.

“One of the great frustrations for parents last year was lack of primary school places at their chosen school and parents having to send their children to different schools. And it has always been part of the plan for Oakmoor to expand.”

Once the expansion proposals for the three schools are rubber-stamped, the new classrooms could all be finished and open in less than three years.

Planning permission to grow the schools will be dealt with by Hampshire County Council.

It is planned work at the junior and infant schools will completed by September 2024 and at Oakmoor by September 2025.

And a new primary school is still on the cards.

Cllr Tree added: “It is still intended a brand-new primary school is built.”
