Never mind the three Kings – three Queens have delivered a tree-mendous Christmas present to a military charity following a festive event in Buriton.

The second Buriton Treefest has been a huge success as the now-annual event organised by Elaine Bray, Susan Shone and Karen White raised more than £2,000 for the Royal British Legion.

The trio, who call themselves the Buriton Fundraising Group, encouraged villagers of all ages to decorate an artificial Christmas tree with around 100 on display.

And the results were suitably dazzling with the weekend event in Manor Barn also including a tombola, side stalls and penguin hunt.

There were some apt visitors as Cllr Chris Paige, chairman of the Petersfield RBL branch and town mayor, joined in with decorating one tree while Buriton Primary School pupils helped out alongside town crier, Faye Thompson and her husband and consort, Martin.

The weekend event – called “magical” by one visitor – raised more than £1,300 with close to £700 being donated through www.justgiving.com/page/buriton-treefest2025 at the time of writing.

Elaine said: “Last year was the first time we held a Tree Fest but it was over two weekends instead of one.

“We said at the beginning we would be delighted to raise £2,000 and we did, so we’re happy.

“We’ve been doing the Buriton Fundraising thing for ten years and every year we pick a different charity that means something to us. Last year it was Alzheimer’s Society and in the past we’ve done the Hampshire Air Ambulance, Rosemary Foundation, Help for Heroes and more.

“My choice is the RBL because I’m a Poppy Appeal co-ordinator and that’s why we invited the mayor, but with it being 80 years after the end of World War Two we just thought it made sense for this year.”
