A NEW cycleway is set to be installed along the A325 from the Conde Way roundabout to Tesco in the High Street.
However, Whitehill Town Council raised concerns that the new section of the cycleway will be too short.
Councillor Adam Carew said: "We definitely welcome it and it's clearly a step in the right direction - but it doesn't go anywhere. We hope it can be extended."
Proposals have been put forward to complete the link in the A325 cycle route to provide a continuous route from the Whitehill roundabout to the south and on to the Tesco cycleway in the north. Further extensions to the cycleway will be made subject to funding.
Improvements are also to be made to de clutter the signage at the Conde Way roundabout to reduce the number of, and size of, signs that could effect forward visibility.
The cycleway decision supports Hampshire County Council's three corporate priorities: Making the county safer and more secure for all; maximising wellbeing and enhancing quality of place.
The completed route is intended to provide a safe and attractive facility for all users, and increase a feeling of well-being and fitness by encouraging cycling and walking, with the visual enhancement of reducing the signs at the roundabout.
Whitehill town councillors were also concerned about plans to remove the low kerbs opposite the entrance to Tesco. County council officers are currently investigating the proposals regarding the kerb.
