A PROPOSED date for Bordon’s soapbox event has been put forward by organisers SiGNAL.

Emma Selby, managing director at SiGNAL, which offers low-cost workshop and office space for small businesses, told the Herald they are hoping to host the event on the provisional date of August 18, 2020, but this is yet to be agreed with Whitehill Town Council and the safety advisory group.

Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company is the main backer of the event, which will take place on Chalet Hill, with the finish just before Forest Road.

There will also be two jumps on the course, between Park Street and Savile Crescent, as well as live screening of the event and an after-party at Jubilee Park.

The soapbox race will support two charities – Help for Heroes, which supports people in the British Armed Forces who have suffered injury or illness during service, and the Whitehill and Bordon Community Trust, which aims to work with residents and organisations to enhance the growing community.

It will see the event return to the town after this year’s hugely successful race in Farnham, which attracted around 12,000 people and raised more than £43,000 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, and two previous soapbox derbies on Chalet Hill on May 30, 2011, and June 4, 2012.

Emma hopes it will be a “community-based” event, with tickets set to go on sale firstly to Bordon businesses and community groups from January, subject to approval, before opening up to the wider area at the end of March. There will be 50 driver slots available.

And now they are on the lookout for sponsorship, with opportunities for a main sponsor, start and finish line sponsors, jump sponsors and corporate sponsors with race entry.
