GILBERT White’s House’s first dog show was a “huge success”, according to organisers.
Run in partnership with Christine Gibson and Penny Peters, the show was held at the museum.
More than 500 people who attended saw upwards of 120 dogs enter various competition classes as the grounds of the house in Selborne overflowed with animal lovers and their canine companions..
With activities running throughout the day such as water retrieval, fastest dog and maze and an agility course, there was plenty to occupy everyone between judging.
Categories included golden oldie, puppies under one year, waggiest tail and fancy dress, to name just a few. Judges handed out rosettes to the winning dogs.
There were also plenty of stalls to visit including Many Tears Animal Rescue, Montydog Bandanas, Haslemere Sweets, face painting, homemade doggy treats, traditional ice cream and more.
No one went hungry as an outdoor catering tent provided by the museum, did a brisk trade selling homemade cakes and savoury treats for humans and dogs. There was also a barbecue.
To finish off a “fantastic” day, Touch and Go Agility displayed their skills in the main arena.
“Everyone had a fantastic time, and Gilbert White & The Oates Collections very much hope to bring the Dog Show back for a second year in 2017,” organisers said.
