A FIVE-year-old from Grayshott will team up with reality TV star Ashley Cain next month as he takes on a triathlon to raise funds for research into children’s cancers.

Dexter Rees will swim 20 lengths in the pool at Whitehill Leisure Centre, walk five miles at Virginia Water, and cycle ten miles in Greatham over two days in early April.

He is doing it in aid of MTV star and former professional footballer Ashley’s charity the Azaylia Foundation – and will be joined by Ashley himself for the cycle.

The charity was established last year after the death of Ashley and his partner Safiyya’s  daughter Azaylia aged just eight months old from an aggressive form of myeloid leukaemia.

The foundation is helping to raise awareness of the early symptoms of leukaemia as well as helping other families who are fighting the disease.

It’s not Dexter’s first charity challenge, however, having previously walked a mile aged just one for Save the Children, raised money for Send a Cow with a cake sale aged three, and then taking on a 5km cycle ride dressed as Santa for MIND, aged four.

He chose to support the latter charity after his dad suffered mental-health issues over the pandemic.

Dexter has already smashed his £1,000 fundraising target, but would love more donations at https://www.gofundme.com/f/dexters-triathlon
