Heard the one about a dame and a former pub landlord winning one of Petersfield’s biggest awards?
The town’s answer to Ant and Dec – Joff Lacey and Geoff Wootton – were presented with a title of their own last Friday when they hosted the Petersfield Awards.
The loveable duo came ahead of Chloe Pyatt, Helen Kettle and Marie Penson to be crowned ‘Petersfield Personality’ of the year at the annual showpiece.
The accolade has been a long time coming for Joff as the panto star and Shine Radio stalwart has been nominated before for a title won by the likes of David Weeks, Astrid the Viking and legendary postie, Dave Ray.
So there was a certain irony in winning as part of a double act on a night when they were both presenting.
“You’ve been nominated three times and the fourth time you win it with me – you can see where you’ve gone wrong,” said Geoff, before congratulating the other nominees.
Joff said on stage that the win had taken him by surprise.
He said the following day: “In our award-winning podcast “Joffin’ & Geoffin’” we have discussed how men’s mental health is so important and how we need to address this more.
“I must say having a friend like Geoff has been a Godsend.”
He added: “Congrats to every single winner, and everyone who made the shortlist in their category – you all are the reason why Petersfield is the loveliest place to live.”
More than 20 awards were handed out at the event that celebrates “everything that is awesome about Petersfield” with Meg’s, Shine Radio, March for Men with Kev and The Dandy Cat being among the many winners.
Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, a full list of winners will appear in the November 12 edition of the Post & Herald.
