OAKMOOR School in Whitehill and Bordon has been shortlisted for this year’s Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards.

The RIBA judges said a great deal of consideration had been given to the design of the new school building, resulting in an innovative, energy-efficient and sustainable community facility.

Enhanced sports facilities also include a floodlit, all-weather pitch and six indoor badminton courts in two generous halls. The RIBA award winners will be announced later this year.

Hampshire leader Councillor Keith Mans expressed his delight at the news, adding the council’s £10 million investment into the £30m secondary school “was carefully thought through to ensure we delivered a broad and diverse range of teaching and learning spaces.”

School principal Paul Hemmings said: “Our new school is an inspirational learning environment for both students and staff.”

The county council is awaiting news of another award for its work on Oakmoor School, having been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Social Impact Award in the education category.

As well as Hampshire’s investment, the total cost of the school build was met with contributions from the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company, Homes England, East Hampshire District Council and the Department for Education.
