THE LIFE cycle of an eel is now explained in a picture which will be added to the information boards put out when the Eel House in Alresford holds open days.

Artist Stephen Harte donated it to fill a hole in the Eel House display which had existed since it opened in 2008. It shows how eels swim from Europe to the Sargasso Sea in the North Atlantic to mate, and let the Gulf Stream current take their eggs and larvae back to Europe.

Eel House committee chairman David Woods said: "The beautifully-designed and printed picture tells the extraordinary story of this 5,000-mile round trip."
