A HEADLEY Down student is heading to South Africa this summer to support wildlife and families in need.
But as part of being accepted into the Volunteer Eco Students Abroad programme, Emily-Rose Milburn has to raise £1,500 for the project.
Emily, who lives in Headley Down and is studying psychology and neuroscience at Sussex University, Brighton, hopes the trip will see her “making a difference in the wider world”.
“This programme allows students to engage in conservation projects around the world as well as improving the lives of the local community,” she said. “I have been chosen to work in South Africa, where I will be constructing housing and bathrooms for local families in need, as well as teaching English to schoolchildren to enable them to unlock possibilities in a globalised world.
“The conservation part of the programme includes observing and counting crocodile eggs, as well as capturing and releasing the crocodiles.
“I will also be working with cheetahs as part of a rehabilitation, breeding and release programme.”
Emily’s two-week trip is scheduled for July 8-22.
