ILLEGAL street parking could be a thing of the past in Petersfield after East Hampshire District Council and the police coughed up £10,000 between them to help stamp out the growing problem in the district.

Shoppers and visitors to Petersfield have been warned that they will get a hefty fine if caught parking on double yellow lines or ignoring parking restrictions after EHDC and the police agreed to the extra funding of police officers.

The new parking crackdown began this week and is set to continue until March at the earliest.
