EAST HAMPSHIRE District Council chairman Cllr Adam Carew has announced a fundraising curry and quiz night to raise money for Ukraine.

The charity fundraiser will take place on Saturday, May 7 from 7pm to 11pm at the Forest Community Centre in Bordon.

Tickets cost £25 per head and need to be booked in advance.

The buffet curry is being provided by Abdul Hamid from award-winning Dhanmondi Curry House in Whitehill.

Cllr Carew has devised the quiz and will host the event – which will conclude with a grand raffle.

Whitehill & Bordon Town Partnership is running a bar, with a donation of the takings going towards the charity.

Cllr Carew said: “Like most people I was horrified and disgusted when Vladimir Putin’s Russia suddenly invaded Ukraine and yet it seems the West can do very little because of the risk that any intervention could escalate into nuclear war.

“Yet I do not feel we can just sit by. I have chosen my chairman’s charities but I feel we have rather been taken over by world events, so the vast bulk of any monies raised this year will be going towards the British Red Cross’s Ukraine Appeal.

“I hope East Hampshire residents, community groups, local businesses, schools and churches get behind this Ukraine charity fundraiser and organise teams – a maximum of eight per table. There will be prizes for the winning team.

“If you don’t have a team please still come as I am sure we can find you a group of friendly people to join.

“I hope this will be a fun night even if the cause we are raising money for is serious.

“I will also be looking to our amazing local businesses and community groups to provide prizes for our charity auction and grand raffle.

“With your support and kind donations I am sure we can make a real difference.”
