Farnham Maltings’ annual textile show thread…a festival of textiles will celebrate its 10th anniversary tomorrow (Saturday, June 11) from 9am to 5pm.
Visitors can expect to see a vibrant curated marketplace of more than 50 independent textile businesses throughout the Maltings’ buildings selling beautiful artisan fabrics, haberdashery, and their own fantastic creations.
Look out for returning local favourites, including Pins and Needles (Grayshott) and Thimble & Thrift (Ewhurst).
They will be joined by many well-known vendors from further afield such as Fabrics Galore, Dovetailed London Ltd, Purple Stitches, The Maker’s Atelier and many more.
An exhibition Alchemy of Blue will be on display in the Long Kiln Room.
A collaboration between two textile artists, Jacqueline James, an award winning rug weaver and Amélie Crépy, an artist and textile print designer, Alchemy of Blue is a contemporary seven-metre handwoven and custom-dyed art installation featuring luxurious natural fibres such as wool, silk, nettle ramie, hemp and linen, all dyed in woad and indigo, the plants historically used to produce the colour blue for textiles.
It also reflects Jacqueline and Amelie’s mutual concerns around issues of commercial, mass-produced textiles and the impact on the environment.
Running as part of the festival is an inspiring talks and bookable workshop programme run by textiles experts including everything from Natural Yarn Dyeing to A-Z of Embroidery Stitches.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded textile enthusiasts and to gain inspiration for your next project,” said a Maltings’ spokesman.
Tickets cost £8 (under 18s free), available from the Maltings’ box office: farnhammaltings.com / 01252 745444.
