The Herald has teamed up with Farnham Town Council to offer two pairs of tickets to the opening event of this year’s Farnham Literary Festival starring actor Christopher Biggins.

Taking place at St Andrew’s Church on Friday, March 3, the literary-themed variety show will kick off with a welcome and talk through all things literary with the West End veteran, including an overview of forthcoming festival events and his career in the arts.

This will be followed by a short screening by filmmaker Jack Jewers, performances by local singer/songwriters Jim Cozens and Rebecca Jayne, and finally a talk from international best-selling author B.A. Paris.

To stand a chance of winning one of two pairs of tickets to the launch event, simply email your name and telephone number to [email protected] with ‘Literary Competition’ in the subject line before midday on Monday, February 27. One entry per email address please. Good luck!

Bookings are now being taken for events and activities at this year’s Farnham Literary Festival which is a celebration of literature in all its forms.

Running until March 12, the festival includes more than 40 events providing an opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the world of books, poetry, spoken word, illustration, film, opera and more.

There is also a programme for local schools funded by Farnham Town Council.

Councillor Kika Mirylees, lead member for tourism and events, said: “Be ready to be inspired by the amazing line-up of guest speakers, including the one and only Dame Jacqueline Wilson, former Children’s Laureate and best known for her Tracy Beaker books.

“You will also have the chance to hear from local and internationally renowned writers, such as broadcaster Ian Williams, Horrible Histories illustrator Martin Brown and crime novelist Ava Glass.

“Whether you’re a seasoned literary festival-goer or a first-timer, come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of author talks and readings. Take part in workshops to improve your writing and reading skills, try out cross-stitching with Mr X Stitch and enjoy a range of activities for children at Farnham Library.”

As well as literature, the festival is billed as a celebration of Farnham so great use is being made of the community hubs and interesting buildings where people go to enjoy books.

Farnham Town Council is proud to have partnered with a number of local organisations to help make the festival possible and for there to be a focus on having a number of free events and community events.

The full programme and ticket information is available at www.farnhamliteraryfestival.co.uk or a brochure can be picked up from Farnham Town Council and venues around the town.
