A two-day exhibition celebrating 140 years of the Petersfield Salvation Army opens next week.

Queen Victoria was still firmly on the throne when the charity arrived in town in 1886.

A programme of events hailing their great work in the years since will continue next Friday and Saturday (June 19 and 20) with a celebration exhibition in their Swan Street HQ.

The exhibition will shine a light on their first year in Petersfield, places of worship, officers and soldiers, young people’s work and open-air meetings.

There will also be a then and now comparison of the Petersfield Corps (Church) with the exhibition open from 9.30am to 3.30pm on both days.

It follows a hugely successful anniversary festival and concert in March.
