A WHITEHILL family undertook a Mighty Hike for charity.
Gillian Snelgar, her daughter and son in law, Joanna (20 weeks pregnant) and Andy Mealey, trekked for 26 miles and raised £1,200 for cancer charity Macmillan in June.
“We walked along the South Downs Way from Brighton Racecourse to Eastbourne,” said Gillian.
“It was an 11-hour walk with brief rest stops. Glen, my husband, and our dog Annie were our support team, meeting us at points along the route to give us the encouragement we needed.”
She said Macmillan is a charity which the family holds dear. “We chose to do the walk because our family is receiving support from Macmillan as my husband Glen has been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, neuroendocrine cancer, and recently completed an eight-month course of peptide receptor radioactive Therapy at St Luke’s Guildford to help halt the growth of the tumours. It was a tough challenge to walk those 26 miles. But we know we will recover, whereas cancer patients must endure pain and uncertainties throughout their lives.”
