FARNHAM Help for Refugees will hold its next aid collection tomorrow (Friday) from 2.30pm to 6.30pm at St George’s Church, Badshot Lea.

The group is calling for donations of clothing and aid for refugees in Syria, Bosnia and Greece, and now also Ukraine. Given the escalating humanitarian issues in the Ukrainian, it is expecting a “huge response”.

As such, the group has asked if anybody would be willing to lend them a marquee, and set it up, this Friday from 1pm to 9pm. With rain expected, this will help to house all the donations that will overspill from the church hall.

Contact the group via the ‘Farnham Help for Refugees in UK and Overseas’ Facebook group, where an up-to-date list of desired donations can also be found.

With the biggest aid requirement for Ukrainian refugees being financial, cash donations will be welcomed on the day too.

A group spokesman said: “Our distribution partner has committed to send several truck loads of aid to Ukrainian refugees via partners/staff in Moldova, Hungary and Poland as well as keeping their and our existing commitment to send to refugees in need in Serbia, Bosnia and Greece.

“The main aid required for Ukrainian refugees is financial to enable provision of food and emergency equipment: this is sourced in Germany and the Netherlands due to Brexit-related complicatations of sending from the UK.

“We will also be welcoming cash donations at our aid collection on Friday, March 11.”
