THE Deadwater Valley Trust duck race drew a healthy crowd and raised £160 for the charity. Trust ranger Jamie Cummins said that despite early rain and dark clouds, the popular annual event "went well". Whitehill mayor Chris Wherrell turned up to launch 200 ducks into River Deadwater (two heats of 100 ducks each then a final with 40 qualifying ducks) in front of an eager crowd last Saturday. The first duck, which earned £25, belonged to Kingsley woman and Friend of Deadwater Rosemary Hickman and the runner up, winning two nature DVDs, was Lisa Hutchinson, who helped Deadwater Valley Trust on the day.
