FOUR Whitehill town councillors have resigned following a leadership contest, described as an "orchestrated whispering campaign" by one outgoing councillor.
Echoing the changes at the district council, Liberal Democrat councillors Adam Carew, Mark Davison, Brian Desmond and Gina Hopkins stood down last Wednesday.
Their resignation came after councillor Andy Tree challenged Mr Carew for the position of leader of the Liberal Democrats on the town council.
Following a 5-4 vote, Mr Tree was elected leader - a result Mr Carew, on resigning, described as "playground politics".
