A WOMAN who defrauded East Hampshire District Council out of more than £7,000 in housing benefit was lucky to escape a jail sentence, according to magistrates.

Loyce Njeru, 43, failed to declare four of her five part-time jobs to the council while she was receiving housing benefit towards a property in Savile Crescent, Bordon.

Over a two-year period, from 2008 to 2010, she claimed £7,267.45 to which she was not entitled.
