A JAZZ and wine fair, a European market and even a giant water fight are among the events being planned to encourage town residents to get used to visiting Bordon’s Prince Philip Barracks.
When developed, the barracks, accessed via Budds Lane, will be the site of the new Whitehill and Bordon town centre, centered around the Sandhurst Block clock tower and parade ground.
As well as markets and fairs, also included in this year’s programme of events, organised by site developer the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company, are: sports-taster sessions at the newly opened Garrison Pool, in Budds Lane; monthly meetings with police officers at The Coffee Pot cafe at Martinique House, in Hampshire Road; a Disco Skate roller disco at Prince Philip Barracks’ Garrison Gym; woodland walks and a barracks bike tour.
Explaining why the events are being held, Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company community development officer Naomi Metcalfe said: “It is important for us to engage with those already living in Whitehill and Bordon throughout the redevelopment process and these events will enable them (the residents) to make the most of the facilities that are on their doorstep.
